You better not mess with Clowny, knowum Sayin’? The idea was to come up with a riff and just finish the damn song…short n sweet, clowny feet….

I dunno—there is nothing cooler than the ‘whip-crack-ch-ch’ sound of this 80’s gem. Years later when I got more into music, I discovered it was the sound of a Synare, a classic analog drum synth. Anyhow, I threw in some actual Synare samples along with some Go-Go’s buried in the mix. I never take myself seriously and I’m a mediocre vocalist at best, but it’s a bit of fun…I always thought for years the main riff was played on a guitar, but it is actually a Prophet 5 synth. I played it on both guitar and synth here…phun!
Not for real, silly…just the name of the song. I had only recently heard this song and fell in love with it, so I just had some fun singing it…written by Paul McCartney and made famous by the beautiful Mary Hopkin (ahh…memories of toughskins and ‘Those Were The Days’)
A different mix…Background vox panned and lowered, Bowie samples raised…some eq tweaks…Also…Don’t know why, but threw some echoed bongoes in…

Listen to Hope You’re Happy Too
Lifted from one of my all time fave tunes…
Hmm…I sat down to write a Vangelis rip-off kinda tune, and then I threw in some Muse and MGMT in…then I remembered how much the Poseidon Adventure scared the hell out of me as a kid…damn Gene Hackman…
Listen to Chrysalis
Not only does this song have cowbell, but E-bow and not one but TWO theremins…in stereo…harmonized….(kinda…at times). Seeing as my kids did not take to it for Christmas, it got shoved down into the corner of the studio…

Think compressed beats, acetylene torches, weepy pianos, wheat thins, Sandy Duncan…
Aux Champs Elysées
Mother’s Day 2012.
Mom put on some French music and I immediately identified with the melody–I must have heard it often as a young child. I think originally made famous by Joe Dassin. Not sure if Beatles ripped off him or vice-versa, but I implore you to seek out other French greats like Piaf, Brel, and the like…
My apologies for butchering the language…
